It is royally personified from ancient times, since its conception till date. When this fabric exhibits itself as nine yards of grace and elegance, it drapes as the most beloved Chanderi Saree.

Don’t worry, U! We have it covered.

Where are Chanderi sarees made?

In a humble town in Madhya Pradesh, the choicest handloom weavers designed a fabric – identified as the town itself – Chanderi. It is situated in the Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh, India, a historic site, famous for its handicrafts all over the world.

Their patterns draw inspiration from the Chanderi temples.

Even though the saree originated in Chanderi, this remarkable silk handloom has been an enormous part of the renowned Indian heritage of hand-woven ethnic wear.

How is Chanderi fabric made?

Sustained by generations, this fabric is made by skilled and experienced weavers whose craftsmanship is irreplaceable. Woven with cotton and silk yarn, fine Chanderi fabric gets extracted from the Kolikanda root – light yet strong, giving the textile a glossy finish. It is woven using the technique of hand spinning cotton warps and wefts.

The uniqueness of Chanderi fabric lies in its beautiful motifs embellished on the fabric. Their essence also lies in the colour of the zarithreads that are usually gold, silver, or copper.

Chanderi Fabric is mostly of three types – Chanderi silk cotton, Chanderi pure silk, and Chanderi cotton. Presently, raw silk – more substantial, is used in the warp of every saree. Zari with silk is sometimes used to make tissue sarees.

The transparency and sheer texture make Chanderi sarees different from others. The great quality and extra-fine craftiness used to weave the Chanderi sarees secure the fabric and make it stronger.
